I checked the pilot light and its lit, flame is strong like its supposed to be. When I turn the thermostat there is no click, If anyone can help with any suggestions I would really appreciate it, I cannot afford to call a heating company to fix for .

Of coarse the gas valve knob should be in the on position if you have recently lit the pilot. If that is ok and you do have power to the furnace the thermostat should engage the gas valve. If not there may be a safety or limit switch open not allowing control voltage to the gas valve. Many limits are resetable with a button located in the middle of the switch. Usually located around the burner and near the main blower. Limits trip for a reason so be aware there may be another problem.Without more info about what you have we are guessing so the more info the better. There are many types of furnaces and brands but I guess we do know you have an older model that has a pilot.

Make sure the door is flush with the furnace because the door makes a switch and if it is not making the switch nothing works. I see where you checked the pilot light so maybe you didn’t get the door back on right. Try taking the door off and putting it back, you will know if that was it because you will hear a humming sound.

The pilot flame should make contact with the thermocouple to prove that the pilot is on so make sure that the flame is on it.
If it is, turn the gas off and let the thermocouple cool down and take something not too rough to clean the white stuff off it which can stop the signal to the gas valve. You can use a dollar bill to rub on it and it won’t scratch it.
Then turn the gas back on and relight the pilot.
