How much would each cost to install, and what would the annual saving be for each approximately? Thanks.

No one can answer that without knowing all the measurements, where you live, how much you spend now on heating or cooling, how much of the work you might do yourself, and so on. The only way to get a reliable estimate is to call someone local who does that kind of work, who will come and look at your house to see how much work is involved.

Since you’re asking about loft insulation, I’m wondering if you are not on the Eastern side of the big pond. If so, these figures probably will not help, however, in the US you can use an average of:

Window replacement – pricing will vary by size, but for units 32″x52″ – $ 235-325

    Attic/loft insulation (batts) – $ 0.65-$ 1.25 per square foot

Wall cavity insulation – varies greatly, but can average $ 0.85 – $ 1.75 per square foot of wall space

Calculating annual savings from here would be a bit hard to do, however, an average payback is less than 5 to 10 years.

Your actual period of payback will depend on your lifestyle, the home ‘s construction, and the cost of heating fuel.

If you do live in the US, your wiring should be inspected as the national electrical code prohibits insulating any wall cavities that containing knob and tube wiring.

    Good luck…
