Question by JillieSchmillie: Could I use something like clear window plastic to temporarily patch my busted-out back window?
I busted out the back window in the hardtop of my Jeep and want to temporarily patch it up until I can straighten things out with the insurance company and get some funds together. I need to use my car for my work and school commute but the weather is too cold where I am to leave the back window open.

Could I use something like clear window plastic (normally used to insulate home windows during winter) to temporarily patch it up?

I was thinking something like:

http://www.amazon.com/3M-2141W-Indoor-5-Window-Insulator/dp/B00002NCJI

The instructions on it sound easy enough and it seems like it would be a good temporary fix, but was hoping to get some feedback/advice from people who actually know about cars.

Thanks in advance!

I checked out the link you were referring to.It won’t hold up to the wind.Use either heavy duty plastic or plexi glass.Or you could get a roll of shrink wrap.Open the door and pull the wrap tightly around the inside and outside of the door, covering the window area. Then just close the door and it should hold up til you get the window fixed.

Go to home depot and buy heavy duty vapour barrier and duct tape. They sell it by the yard, cheap.

I am not sure how well it would stand up in the wind. But the idea is good. A building supply store could provide you with a lot of plastic vapour barrier and duct tape for the same money
